How to Get the Most Out of Your Fiji Getaway to Vanua Levu
Vanua Levu is a great place for a Fiji Getaway, it’s lively and exciting plus peaceful and relaxing. This island has a gorgeous landscape good beaches and a well deserved name for diving and snokeling. Not to mention that it’s nearby Rainbow reef which is dubed the best diving in Fiji. Some of the must do’s in Vanua Levu include the following.
Rent a 4WD so you can explore the island especially around the Tunuloa Peninsula. This area makes up the eastern section of Vanau Levu . Expect lush and scenic which is perfect for exploring and going of road in a four wheel drive. You can also find great bird watching in this area. The road becomes very slippery after a it rains so be cautious. Have a drink during happy hour at Savusavu Yacht Club. This pub as one of the most friendly feels in Fiji and is perfect for your Fiji getaway. It is known to get a bit rough around the edges come Saturday night so be particular of the crowd you hang around. You will find picnic tables around the water slide and tourists are considered temporary members and happy hour is between 5:30 - 6:30.
Go for a trek around the Waisali Rainforest Reserve. Located in the verdant north of Savu is the protected Waisali Rainforest Reserve. It doesn’t offer much of a trek, just about 30 minutes each way it does offer beautiful foliage and and magnificent waterfalls. Visit Wainunu Bay. This area is considered the forgotten Fiji and is a place where few travelers head. It’s hard to get to and the land has never even been commercially logged so the rainforest and waterfalls are nearly untouched. The third largest river in Fiji flows through here and makes for a perfect picnic area. Today you will find some run down factories and plantations along with native Fijians who make a living by selling timber and Kava. - go on an adventure cruise with Tui Tai. If you have only a short amount of time this is a great way to make the most of it.This cruise sales between Vanua Levu, Traveuni and the more remote islands of Kioa, Koro and the ringgolds. On this Fiji getaway you’ll get to go snorkeling, kayaking, biking, trekking, swimming, fishing, diving or just lounge around and relax. If your lucky you’ll even see large whales swimming along side the boat and sometimes dolphins. Not to mention the boat is beautiful.
Hang out at the Planter’s Club and soak up Fijian History. Traditional this was a place for planters to come a have a drink after they have brought in a copra and some of their decedents can still be found here. You can get a real taste of Fiji history while you sip beer just like they used to in the old days on your Fiji getaway. Happy hour is from 5:30 - 6:30.
