Freedom of Yachting and Making New Money Without Job Hunting So Hard
Yacht jobs - why does everyone want to work on a yacht? Well it sounds great, it’s great money most say. Who wouldn’t want to work on a yacht? You are traveling all around the world and seeing all the places that the average person dreams about seeing but could never afford. Doing what you love and getting paid for it, now that’s life. Why wouldn’t you want to do it?
When I first heard about yachting my eyes were as wide as the airplane I flew over on. I had no idea what this was all about - no clue. A little searching online and it all sounded golden. I quit my job and 2 weeks later I flew to Ft Lauderdale where all the boating action happens. I was scared because I didn’t know where I was going and what I was doing. I just new I was going to do it, it was going to happen for me.
When I arrived at my hostel I was in a room with 3 bunk beds - “cool, sleepover,” I thought. Well soon found out that I was in a room with 5 men and myself. It wasn’t that bad only 3 out of the 5 snored really loud. With no sleep and out job hunting, I got day work that day and met lots of very nice people. That evening went to my very first concert with my new friends it so happened that my favorite band was playing - Beastie Boys - I was stoked. The next two day of day-working turned into a full time job. I was on my way now to have so much fun and make so much money.
My job went well for about 6 months than I got tired of sitting in the same spot for so long, I wanted to travel see it all and does it all. I left my job and left my new friends and went back to job searching again. I soon found a job again, sailing which sounded like a wonderful adventure in my new life so I took it, or they took me more or less. Traveling through the Caribbean was a wonderful opportunity. I continued to learn more about my job and the others around me which made me grow into greed. I was never brought up in greed; my family never raised me like that. People talking about how great there job is and how much tips they earn and on and on. Now I don’t like to even hear about other yachties stores most to time they are cow-dung anyways. Eight month later I moved on again to start the new thing I heard about called FREELANCING well that was great for a while making money but not practical for having a stable job. It was time to go out there and search for something that I could invest my time into. A permanent yacht job very scary for most people, it was time for me to build my yacht career to get ahead in life.
I meet someone who I share my experiences with in the yachting world. I’m not into the partying lifestyle of a Yachtie. I’m hear to make money not spend it. I wanted to explore on time off and experience the outside of the yachting communities. I worked freelancing on a boat with my partner and now we work on a boat full time together for 4 years now on the same boat. Which is usually unrealistic in the yachting world!
I’ve heard that Owners and Captains don’t like teams. I understand if a team quits on you, you loose two people. But quality couples stay longer on boats than single people. It saddens me that some people have given teams a bad name in the yachting industry. We have all met those teams that shouldn’t even be working as singles let alone as a team. YIKES they need to look up the definition of team. Than again I see these people continue to get great jobs with benefits and time off. I know I am working hard towards building my carrier. I don’t want it handed to me anymore I want to earn it. That is why I will continue to give the yacht my all.
Signing off as a hooked Yachie…. Contact me on my website for better opportunities.
